Embracing the staycation…

I don’t know about you but I have a sense that these months are just racing by again now…I simply cannot believe we are in April, the fourth month of the year, already! And with Easter only a few days away, it all seems to have happened in little more than a blink of an eye!

It has however been so difficult not to wish the time away, especially in Lockdown, but with restrictions once again starting to lift we can finally look forward to some happier more carefree times ahead.

And with the holiday season soon to be upon us the buzz word for 2021 seems to definitely be Staycation. The term staycation derives from the combination of the words, stay and vacation, in simple terms, ‘A holiday spent in one’s home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.’ (source – https://www.lexico.com/definition/staycation)

I think this year more than any other we will all finally relish the chance to explore and enjoy the wonders of the UK. Hopefully discovering a wealth of attractions and locations that we otherwise might never have considered before, and just think of the plus side; no leaving your furry friends back at home, no restrictions on your baggage allowance, no endless waiting in airport lounges, and no jet lag!

However, there is always one, potentially disappointing thing…the weather, British weather has a little bit of a reputation for being, how can we say…underwhelming!

Well, the fact that there is no luggage limit does mean at least you can afford to take all those cosy layers, waterproofs and wellies too…think festival fashion and you are pretty much covered!

Although 2020 did have us all reaching for the factor 50, so one thing is for sure, holidays in the UK are never ‘dull’ (pardon the pun).

Where ever you are hoping to holiday this year I am sure after the past 12 months we have all endured, you will, at last, enjoy every precious second of it.

Getting ready for summer.

Well, I don’t think I will be shrugging off my joggers or cosy knitwear any time soon…British summer ‘n’ all! I am by nature a fair-weather girl who often feels the chill, so, until we are well and truly into double figures on the temperature scale, I am a little reluctant to dust off my entire summer wardrobe quite so soon.

However, it does seem very tempting to start mixing and layering lightweight skirts, dresses, trousers and jeans with comfy casual knits. Definitely, the perfect solution to the changeable weather and a great opportunity to make the ‘seasonal mix wardrobe’ fun and experimental, with the bonus of very few fashion rules to be governed by and spoil the fun…seasonal transitional wear can be an absolute joy, layering has never been so modish and one should simply never even try to resist…win, win me thinks!

Summer knits – Chalk UK

Summer knitwear is perfect for this time of year, a lovely touch when layered with shirts, t-shirts and dresses but also great when draped around the shoulders too.

Add a light layer of jewellery to give a delicate lift of interest to the transitional spring/summer outfits. Layering necklaces and bracelets is a great way to be creative and also to make the most from your jewellery collection.

So, what will we be wearing according to the experts

We can expect and look forward to a seasonal palette of bright pinks, mellow yellows, oranges and limes, and some awesome, pretty vibrant pastels shades if there is such a thing, in Spring/Summer 2021. Take a peek at this years SS21 Pantone colour palette for a more in-depth guide to this coming season’s fashion shades which have been influenced by floral hues reflective of gardens and outside space.

This year’s jewellery trends are engaged with the freedom of anything goes, with a particular focus on bright beaded necklaces, bracelets and earrings making a vibrant statement for the forthcoming season. The mixing of metals, especially gold and silver, continues to be a very popular choice with the added dimension of interesting textures taking accessories to just another level.

This freedom also means defining your own personal style is becoming so much easier to master. No doubt we will all be making our flamboyant entrance back out into the world again very soon!

Although I must admit after taking the time to do a careful wardrobe reset last year, I will be very gentle to introduce on-trend items of clothing, accessories and colours back in on mass so soon. However, I am sure the occasional well-purchased piece may just add a welcome new dynamic for 2021.
