As autumn finally begins

All change for September as autumn finally begins, I have already noticed the drawing in of the evenings and a bit of a chill in the air. Word has it that we are in for a warm, dry, and sunny September after the washout of August, but I am not going to hold my breath especially as the first few days have been a bit of a disappointment!

Yet the month of September does have a unique quality of gently nudging us into the autumn, with its mixture of beautifully crisp mornings and some relatively unexpected warm days. The start of a new season always manages to give us a pleasant surprise both weather-wise and the transition of nature with its luxurious autumnal colours and textures, getting us ready to finally take the plunge into sleepy winter!

This year’s fashion change of season is no exception and the perfect antidote to our sometimes low mood in the strangest of times, 2020 has a rich cosying colour palette set to brighten even the bleakest of days.

The London 2020/2021 new seasons colour palette by Pantone has now been released and we are soon set to see our favourite retail outlets tempting us with their new season’s fashion goodies.

The wonderful trustworthy tones of this season’s wardrobe basics complement the official autumn/winter colours beautifully with their rich warm cosy hues.

Autumn 20-21 Classics

Autumn/winter 20/21 wardrobe basics

This season’s classic wardrobe basics include off-white, rich camel, navy, and timeless sleet grey, beautiful when simply combined for an understated look, but truly amazing when teamed with this year’s gorgeous warm autumnal palette of bright and sultry reds, reddy browns and tan, bold blues, blue-greens, olive, and yellow-greens.

There certainly seems to be something for everyone with these rich, warm, earthy tones, which will be a welcome distraction during such challenging times.

Autumn/winter jewellery and accessories continue to favour warm tones for the up and coming season too.  Gold jewellery is very much still on-trend, this season team your treasures with the faithful leather handbag in rich brown or tan. A popular come back and favourable change from traditional black which can seem a little harsh. Brown leather coats, gloves, shoes, and handbags always give an extra sense of luxe and chic with a pleasingly warm twist.

Investing in classic, quality, long-term pieces is always, however, recommended as this trend is certain to return time and time again. Leather is also so easy to look after too, invest in a good leather care kit similar to the Aspinal of London Leather care kit and a little monthly TLC will see your beautiful purchases last for a long time to come.

The look of jewellery this season favours bold but this does not necessarily mean we should all follow the trend regardless. Choosing simple quality pieces that suit your own personal style can be much more eye-catching and sustainable, if like me, bold is not really your thing.

For some further inspiration, London Fashion Week has recently announced that it will host both a physical and digital show this year, running from Thursday 17th ’til Tuesday 22nd September. So, to keep an eye and be inspired on what’s in store for our wardrobes this coming season check the LFW website for latest fashion news and reviews

So, let’s get ready to rummage through our wardrobe once again and see what old faithful’s we can find, this is definitely the month to spend some time creating your own new look ready for autumn and winter adding a few new pieces here and there, you’ll be very glad you did!

News from HQ

September for Blue & Grey is normally a time to get visiting trade fairs and exhibitions to meet with our wonderful suppliers and seek out new products ready for the transition from summer to autumn. However, this year in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic we have had to take a slightly different approach to our stock sourcing and slightly adjust our range accordingly. We will endeavour to continue to provide quality merchandise and strive to deliver excellent customer service in support of all our new shopping habits.

I would just like to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to all our loyal customers who have supported us through these challenging times. As a small independent business in times like these, I really appreciate your encouragement.

So, here is to a much more positive and uplifting September, whatever you choose to do through this transitional month I hope it brings much joy, love and peace.
